Americans in most major cities, and in smaller towns and counties across the country as well, have been told we need to shelter in place. We need to be off the streets, in our houses with our families, unless we are an essential worker. The US Surgeon General on March 16th, said, “Do we want to go the direction of South Korea, and really be aggressive and lower our mortality rates, or do we want to go the direction of Italy?” This is a truly excellent question, but we are only being told half of the story, with regard to China and South Korea.
The Orthomolecular News Service is the previous publisher of the Journal Of Orthomolecular Medicine, a respected, peer-reviewed journal on the use of vitamins and nutrition in therapy for patients, and their primary contributors are medical doctors using nutrition and vitamins as front-line treatments for patients with chronic health conditions. The editor-in-chief of the journal is Andrew Saul, who holds a PhD in Human Ethology, and maintains a peer-reviewed website at DoctorYourself.
On March 1, 2020, the Orthomolecular News Service released an article titled “News Media Attacks Vitamin C Treatment of COVID-19 Coronavirus” subtitled, “Yet Ascorbate is a Proven, Powerful Antiviral” written by Andrew Saul. In it can be found the verified statement from a physician on the front-lines of the war against Covid-19 in South Korea:
“At my hospital in Daegu, South Korea, all inpatients and all staff members have been using vitamin C orally since last week. Some people this week had a mild fever, headaches and coughs, and those who had symptoms got 30,000 mg intravenous vitamin C. Some people got better after about two days, and most had symptoms go away after one injection.” (Hyoungjoo Shin, M.D.)
As a result, the statement above, by the Surgeon General, is based on incomplete information that is being given to the American public. South Korea is not just implementing extensive testing of every citizen, or nationwide lock-down and total quarantine of the nation. They are actively fighting this pathogen with the only known effective treatment for it: high dose intravenous Vitamin C, along with prophylactic use of Vitamin C in their hospitals by all patients and staff members.
In addition to South Korea, high dose IV Vitamin C is the primary course of action undertaken by the government and hospitals of China. When the virus was in its initial stages, there were several doctors who were already familiar with the use of high dose IVC, and suggested that several clinical trials be undertaken immediately, at three different hospitals. This began on about the 13th of February, and had excellent results. This lead to the official statement being made by the Xi’an Jiatong University Second Hospital in Shanghai, as follows:
“On the afternoon of February 20, 2020, another 4 patients with severe new coronaviral pneumonia recovered from the C10 West Ward of Tongji Hospital. In the past 8 patients have been discharged from hospital. . . [H]igh-dose vitamin C achieved good results in clinical applications. We believe that for patients with severe neonatal pneumonia and critically ill patients, vitamin C treatment should be initiated as soon as possible after admission. . .[E]arly application of large doses of vitamin C can have a strong antioxidant effect, reduce inflammatory responses, and improve endothelial function. . . Numerous studies have shown that the dose of vitamin C has a lot to do with the effect of treatment. . . [H]gh-dose vitamin C can not only improve antiviral levels, but more importantly, can prevent and treat acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress (ARDS).”
Some people have wondered how does Andrew Saul know these things, and under what authority does he publish the information in these articles? Andrew Saul, who is the editor-in-chief of the Orthomolecular News Service, is a member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board to the International Intravenous Vitamin C China Epidemic Medical Support Team, directed by Richard Z. Cheng, MD. Richard Cheng has been quoted in many of the news releases sent out by the Orthomolecular News Service.
What China and South Korea have done is to treat this disease, Covid-19, as a mass clinical trial. Why wait for smaller clinical trials to be completed, when the three that were undertaken in China had such good results? After these three clinical trials were undertaken, the therapy was instituted across all of China in a couple of weeks. Due to the rapid spread of the virus, it was crucial to not wait.
Yesterday, we shipped 50 tons of immunity boosting Vitaminc C from our DSM Jiangshan plant to the Province of Hubei, of which Wuhan is the capital city. It is not understood by this author how South Korea came to know of this information and acted upon it, but it appears that several physicians from S Korea are on that same advisory board, as well as on the OMNS Board. While there was no official government statement detailing the use of Vitamin C, it was clearly instituted. The same could be done here in the US with Vitamin C.
However, Italy and France did not use the Vitamin C therapy that was used in China and South Korea. Perhaps it because there is the ever-present argument that these treatments are unproven by clinical trials.
While this is not true, and there is a plethora of scientific evidence to show that they work, dating back decades, the news media and other sources of scientific data do not allow this information to be released to the public. Some of the studies on Vitamin C being used by IV to treat serious diseases can be found in another news release.
In fact, the World Health Organization called a meeting of the online giants, including Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Twitter in February, to specifically stamp out any information about alternative treatments of Covid-19, especially treatment involving vitamin therapies. Specifically mentioned was searches for Vitamin C on Amazon.
Thus it is very difficult to find any information related to using Vitamin C as either a preventative or a treatment for Covid-19. Whenever you search for Vitamin C on major search engines, you can find mostly articles supposedly debunking its use for preventing or treating any disease.
The important thing to emphasize here, though, is that there is a huge difference in the outcomes for countries that have ignored cautions against using an unproven treatment, and have administered Vitamin C, either orally and intravenously as in South Korea, or intravenously as in both China and South Korea.
They have fewer deaths, simple as that. Fewer cases, again quite simply. Comparing, for example, the deaths in South Korea, where they are using Vitamin C liberally, and the deaths in Italy, where they are not, there is a stark difference. The death rate (calculated by deaths divided by confirmed cases, found on the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus tracker) is a meager 1.4%. Contrast that with the death rate in Italy, which stands at 10% by the same calculation, and you can see a huge difference.
There is no accounting for this incredible discrepancy by saying they contained it better, or they tested for it better, as Italy also applied severe methods to contain the virus just as China and Korea did. It also cannot be explained by what some people have said, that there are more elderly in Italy. It is not that big of a difference, with 23.1% over 65 in Italy, vs 14.9% in South Korea.
Something that should be noted by all Americans, and others interested in using Vitamin C for their own and their family’s health: all of the people on the OMNS Board, as well as on the advisory board mentioned above for the China epidemic, are medical doctors and clinicians, with years of experience.
They are not charlatans or even “alternative medical practitioners” in the vast majority of cases. They are, in fact, classically trained physicians who have decided to think “outside the box,” and use treatments that are not sanctioned by the major medical authorities, but that have been proven nevertheless to be safe and effective.
Some of the most common side effects of Vitamin C in high doses are upset stomach and diarrhea. In instances where an upset stomach is experienced, for example by patients who have very sensitive digestive systems, there are non-acidic forms of Vitamin C, such as Sodium Ascorbate and Calcium Ascorbate, which are just as effective, and have much lower incidence of upset stomach.
In New York City, in the Northwell Health system, some doctors are recommending and using high dose IVC, as discussed in this TechTimes article.
Northwell Health is the largest healthcare system in New York state.
There are also other treatments that can be used, and are being used in New York, with or without IVC. These include use of hydroxychloroquine (Plaquinil), the drug that the president has been mentioning during press conferences and Azithromycin, a common antibiotic that has also shown promise in the treatment of coronavirus.
Since Plaquenil is an older drug, it is already know to be safe. It could easily be given to every American as a prophylactic, just as vitamin C could be recommended to every American, with very few or no fatalities and few side-effects.
It is time to tell the truth to the American public, and to share the data in this article. Vitamin C has not been proven to harm anyone. Its only reliably proven side-effects are diarrhea if you take too much, and when a person is fighting an infection, they are able to take much more before getting diarrhea.
According to a study published in the Journal Antioxidants, kidney stones have not been associated with high doses of IV Vitamin C. In reality, wouldn’t a person prefer to have a little bit of diarrhea rather than getting sick and dying from the coronavirus?
There is a scientific article that was recently published by the Orthomolecular News Service, that can be found here. This article explains in detail the exact mechanism by which Vitamin C is understood to work when fighting the coronavirus.
It is also important to note that Vitamin C, whether IV or oral, does not actually cure the infection. The evidence would show that it provides protection against the cytokine storm, which is just a fancy way of saying that your lungs fill up with fluid, leading to de-oxygenation and massive organ failure.
Vitamin C prevents this cytokine storm. Then your own immune system clears the infection, using viral specific antibodies, lymphocytes which seek out and kill virus infected cells, as well as natural killer (NK) cells and antiviral macrophages.
Some companies that sell Vitamin C have seen a dramatic uptick in sales as people purchase more to have on hand in order to help their bodies fight this infection. So, there are many who already know the information in this article, and that Vitamin C can, in fact, help you to fight off the coronavirus, and to prevent death or other complications if you do get the virus.
