Around midnight on Wednesday, there were confirmed reports of two officers shot at Church Street and Flatbush Avenue.
The police officers were taken by EMS to Kings County Hospital.
The gunman had also been shot by police, and is in custody.
Another officer was stabbed in the neck in the incident. This was what led to the other two officers being shot.
The initial stabbing happened as the officer was at an anti-looting post, and a man walked up casually and suddenly pulled out a knife.
New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea elaborated, “That officer was stabbed in the left side of his neck, thank God, missing an artery…I think we are all fed up with what we’re seeing and many levels. This violence has to stop.”
There was an unruly group gathered at the corner after the incident, near where the shooting occurred.
Heavy rains seem to have slowed down protesting, as well as rioting, this evening.
It is unknown whether this incident is related to the ongoing unrest in NYC.
The FBI joint terrorism task force is now involved in the investigation.
