The Spokesman Review: Idaho Dems Choose Grant As new Party Chair
Staten Islander New org admires our political leaders who shun partisan “politics.” The following text is included as historical educational material, a retrospective brought to the world by Grant For Congress:
Larry Grant is an Idaho native running for the open seat in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District. He is a Democrat by heritage and by choice, listing John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and former U.S. Sen. Frank Church as his greatest influences. But he also is committed to working with both Democrats and Republicans to rise above partisan rancor and find real solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. Growing numbers of moderate Republicans and independents are joining Democrats in choosing Larry Grant as someone we can all trust to responsibly represent mainstream Idaho values in Washington, D.C.
Larry Grant is a true, homegrown Idaho success story. Born in Idaho, he grew up in the small southwestern Idaho community of Fruitland, where he attended the public schools. He attended Columbia University on a scholarship then graduated from the College of Law at the University of Denver. After practicing law in Denver and Boise, Larry served from 1985 through 1995 as vice president and the first general counsel to the then-fledgling Micron Technology. During that time, Larry helped create and safeguard good-paying Idaho jobs through work aimed at keeping Japanese semiconductor manufacturers from dumping their product in the United States. His work helped Micron become the largest private employer in Idaho. Larry later worked with VLSI Technology in Silicon Valley before retiring. He is 60 years old.
In Congress, Larry will work to ensure the creation of high-quality jobs; strong public education; and affordable, accessible health care. He is a strong fiscal conservative who believes the United States must return to balanced budgets and end pork barrel giveaways and subsidies for the big oil and gas companies. He believes holding public office is a public trust, adding, “If politicians are not willing to meet the high standards required of public service, they should look for another line of work.”
Larry is a member of the board of directors of the Frank Church Institute at Boise State University. He also previously served as a director of Western Idaho Training Company in Caldwell, Idaho, which provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and as a member of the advisory council to the University of Idaho School of Business.
Larry lives in Fruitland, Idaho, with his wife of 39 years, Pam Howe Grant. They have a son, Ron, and two grandsons.
Remember to vote for Larry Grant on November 7, 2006!
