Weird Noise Heard On Staten Island In Graniteville And Other Areas

Share

On September 10, 2021, a strange sound was heard in the Graniteville area of Staten Island. The weird sound went on for a long while, stopping and starting several times, at varying volumes throughout the time it was heard.

We received multiple calls to our newsroom from concerned residents of the Graniteville area. Several of our readers provided us with videos. We have created a compilation of the videos provided.

According to past media reporting, a similar sound in 2017 was caused by a steam valve letting off pressure at the Cogen plant in Linden, New Jersey. However, the Linden plant was not able to confirm or deny whether this was the case on the night in question. Cogen Technologies owns a 895 megawatt cogeneration facility located in Linden. They are a natural gas facility generating electricity.

Readers are welcome to submit comments, here or on the video, of what this strange noise might be.
