STATEN ISLAND, NY: The Conservative Party of Richmond County once again played a significant role in the election of candidates to public office this year. The more than 3,000 votes cast on the Conservative line for attorney Brendan T. Lantry provided him with more than seventy-five percent of the total vote in his election as a Judge of the New York City Civil Court, while the more than 2,500 votes cast on the Conservative line for Councilman Joseph C. Borelli contributed to his having the most total votes of any City Council candidate in the City of New York.
“We pleased to have contributed to the landslide victories for both Judge-Elect Lantry and Councilman Borelli,” said Chairman David Mario Curcio. “During his time as County Chairman of the Republican Party, Judge-Elect Lantry played a major role in the successful election of judges backed by both of our parties, so it is only fitting that he now joins the ranks of the elected judiciary. Councilman Borelli has well established himself as the most conservative member of the New York City Council, where he will be an exceptional Minority Leader.”
The Conservative Party of Richmond County remains the only political party on Staten Island that uses a secret ballot at its nominating conventions, assuring the highest level of integrity in the process. This year, more than eighty percent of the county committee participated in the nominating convention of candidates, which also included Leticia Remauro for Staten Island Borough President and George S. Wonica for City Council in the Mid-Island District. Both candidates earned the party’s nomination through a competitive process in which any and all interested candidates were welcome to participate and make their case directly to the delegates.
“As Conservative Party nominees, both Leticia Remauro and George Wonica enhanced the quality of the general election with positive campaigns that focused on the issues that matter most to constituents,” added Chairman Curcio. “We congratulate those elected and look forward to working with them to advance our conservative agenda and priorities.”
In addition to its own nominees, the party’s executive committee endorsed the successful candidacies of Judge Ron Castorina and attorney Paul Marrone, both Republicans, for election to the State Supreme Court. The Conservative Party also played a major role in the defeat of Ballot Propositions 1, 3, and 4, each of which would have contributed to increased voter fraud in the state. Earlier this year, the Conservative Party of Richmond County became the first political party on Staten Island to formally endorse the secession of Staten Island from the City of New York, a cause for which the party will continue to advocate going forward.
