Deadly Bronx Fire: Update From Salvation Army GNY On Aid Distributed, Interview With Major Stoops

As of January 18, 2022, the following relief efforts were carried out by the Salvation Army of Greater New York to assist with those displaced by the fire, as well as working on long-term recovery efforts:

241 clothing vouchers valued at $24,100 provided to 67 households (271 individuals) through Monroe College service center
Our initial response and emergency assistance at the service center has concluded
Working with Bronx Community Foundation to develop long-term recovery plan for fire victims, *including relocation assistance (first/last month’s rent, security deposit, furniture assistance, etc.), medical expenses, and trauma/grief counseling
$40,000 raised to date for our Bronx Fire Relief Fund
The Salvation Army is the lead organization for in-kind donation management and is collecting in-kind donations dropped off at Gambian Youth Organization’s office as part of continuing relationship to help Bronx fire victims
The Salvation Army’s Family Store in the Bronx is an approved destination for displaced residents to receive free transportation through the city’s Curb account to receive clothing with provided vouchers
The Salvation Army opened its first location in the Bronx in 1890, with its Tremont location opening in 1893
