CORNELL UNIVERSITY PARTNERS WITH QUEENS FAMILY CENTER TO PLANT THE SEEDS FOR AN EXPANSIVE COMMUNITY GARDEN
Kicks off 8-Week Program to Teach Nutrition and Sustainable Gardening to Local Families and Kids – On Earth Day

The Salvation Army Greater New York teams up with Cornell University to launch an eight-week program that puts nutritional gardening information into the hands of Springfield Family Center residents.
A team of Cornell agriculture, nutrition, and education faculty and experts will work with residents to lay the garden, which will put a wide range of healthy and delicious produce on local families’ tables – from cherry tomatoes and collards to rainbow lacinato and cilantro.

Residents will also be given a small section of the garden to grow on their own, while a local motorcycle group is giving back by delivering compost.

This will take place on Saturday, April 22. At 10AM – motorcyclists deliver compost

The garden and event is located at Springfield Family Center, 146-80 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica Queens, NY. This is expected to provide food for the local families who will be tending the garden.
