The Salvation Army Says Friday, 12.15 is last day to make a holiday toy donation – otherwise kids won’t get any

The holiday season is a time of festivity and joy, but it’s anything but that for the 1,800 NYC children who will not be receiving gifts this year. Thousands of parents are living paycheck to paycheck, unable to make ends meet, let alone give their children even one toy this holiday.

That’s why The Salvation Army is making a last-minute plea for people to help make Christmas a reality for even one of those 1,800 kids.

The Salvation Army’s Major Joy Jugenheimer says, “We encourage individuals and companies throughout New York City to act now – before Friday, December 15 – and make a donation that will provide toys to children who otherwise won’t get anything.” To make a donation visit salvationarmyny.org/toys

Every holiday season, The Salvation Army works to make sure that every New York child receives at least one holiday gift.

But this year, they are falling short. Besides individual donors, corporate donations are precipitously low, a trend that began when Covid shut down many in-office operations. Longtime corporate donors have failed to come through.

While The Salvation Army has already filled thousands of toy requests from parents in need, there are currently more than 1,800 local children who will be going without presents this year. Unless New Yorkers step up to help.

The Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree gift program gives people the opportunity to not only give a child a gift but the very one they requested (toys, clothing, and other items) from a list on the Angel Tree website. Those interested in donating toys  must do so by this Friday, December 15th (in two days!).
