Legislative Forum, Featuring Natasha Pernicka – Executive Director of the Alliance to End Hunger NYS, will be held next Wednesday, February 21 2024 at 1:30 PM At The Project Hospitality Community Service Center.

Regarding the Anita Fein Award, scheduled to be presented at the Legislative Forum, the following answers were provided, and appear below each question:

How often is the award given?
It was previously given out every year at their legislative forum, which has not been hosted in 3-4 years since Covid. Previously it was a yearly award given out at the forum. Due to the pandemic, however, it has not been given for the last several years (since February of 2020, just prior to the pandemic).
What is the Award? Is it a trophy, cash prize, or another type of prize?
I believe it is typically a certificate, although I’m not sure what will be given this year
What would qualify someone to be nominated for this award?
Outstanding volunteer service at food pantries. It is all about volunteer service.  If you work at a food pantry for a salary,  but volunteer at another charity, you can be nominated. Those who are paid employees are excluded from qualifying for the award. Only volunteers can be nominated.
How many candidates do you expect to choose from for this year’s award?
We saw roughly 10 nominations, and I believe all will be recognized, although I cannot confirm that at this time, as final decisions are in the hands of the SIHTF Executive team. It will be given out to several volunteers, though the number is not set in stone.
Do you know if there are other activities planned for the Legislative Forum?  Is there an agenda you can send over?

A light lunch will be served, and we will be hearing a presentation from Natasha Pernicka – Executive Director of the Alliance to End Hunger NYS.

The SI Hunger Task Force is not a pantry. Instead, we connect community members to pantries and pantries to community and government resources.
