Wagner’s First NCAA Victory Sparks Staten Island Celebration

Editor’s note: The Wagner College Seahawks official announcement says,  “For the first time in program history, the #16-seed Wagner men’s basketball team earned an NCAA Tournament victory by defeating #16-seed Howard, 71-68, in the First Four of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.”

According to BVM Sports, the Underdog story mentioned above was described as follows: “Wagner Seahawks, a lesser-known team, captured hearts after upsetting Merrimack Warriors to secure their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2003, with junior guard Tahron Allen leading the charge with 22 points. The remarkable victory, achieved with only seven healthy players, highlights the coaching prowess of head coach Donald Copeland, propelling the team towards success in the face of adversity.”
