Limitless Monday – You are only as strong as your greatest weakness
It’s not just the boxer who targets the cut on his opponent’s battered face; it’s the river that flows around the impervious rock and the force of the waves that erodes the mighty cliff.
It’s a fact of life and a fact of nature that our opponent or an opposing force always targets the weakest point. These forces follow a simple process. Test the subject until they have identified the weakness, and then bombard that weakness until victory is in hand or, in the case of nature, until the subject is worn down and eventually destroyed.
It is often said, we are only as strong as our weakest link.
Many of us don’t even know if we have a weak link; that’s because we haven’t been tested sufficiently. It’s a sign.
If you believe you are perfect and have no obvious weaknesses, you haven’t lived. You need to get out more!
We all have weak links.
As a sports person, an artist, an entrepreneur, a manager, a tradesman, a parent, and as a son or daughter.
Some of our weaknesses impact many facets of our lives. For example, if you are short tempered, that will seep into your family life, business, and any sports or hobbies you are involved in.
Poor listener, lazy, lacking discipline or self respect. The list continues. My point is, we all have weaknesses.
As we set goals and strive to achieve them, we will discover new weaknesses. Perhaps we already know of our weaknesses but are under the misapprehension that they won’t act as an impediment to our success.
Rather than avoid weaknesses, we must tackle them head on. Don’t be fearful of a weakness. Be thankful you found it.
The best part of identifying a weakness is turning it into a strength. That process will provide you with an amazing feeling of freedom.
Many of us don’t have the dedication or drive to do this, and we attempt to find ventures where our weaknesses won’t reveal themselves. But your subconscious knows.
It has a long memory. And you will never again feel totally complete knowing that you have a weakness that hangs over your head threatening to expose you.
Can’t swim, claustrophobic, lack strength or stamina, risk averse. Weaknesses reveal themselves both in mental and physical form. It’s like having a cracked chair leg.
You apply a bit of glue, but you don’t know when someone will lean on it and it snaps clean off. Glue is not a fix. You need a new chair leg.
As someone about to embark on their exams, focus on the questions you would ordinarily avoid. Those are your weak points.
If necessary, read material outside your reading list. Don’t be afraid to ask a friend who has a handle on the syllabus, and don’t allow him to leave until the light bulb burns bright.
As a tennis player with a weak backhand: Don’t be reluctant to change your grip. Yes, the ball will probably fly over the fence for the first few shots, but that adjustment and constant practice will make your backhand your strongest shot.
As a boxer who is constantly in receipt of black eyes: Make defense your priority. As a parent or business person with a volatile temperament: Focus on patience and listening.
It’s not about always being right, it’s about finding the best solution for everyone. Consider meditation.
Today I would like you to identify two weaknesses you have been hiding.
Acknowledging your weakness is the first major step to freedom. Bringing the weakness from your subconscious to your conscious will ensure you have no choice but to deal with it.
The next time your opponent throws a right hand, he will be amazed when you slip it and knock him down with a right hand of your own. The next time your child screams for an hour, the little munchkin will be astounded when you calmly console them and make them smile.
Overcoming your weaknesses is the only way you can make major progress in life.
Happy Monday!
