Limitless Monday – Take a chance

I was walking through my apartment lobby last week when I spotted the free weekly local newspaper discarded on the floor.

As I contemplated whether it was worth the effort to lean down and pick it up a thought occurred to me. What if this week’s paper contained an article or advert that could change my life?

I picked the newspaper up, read it from cover to cover and concluded there was no such article or advert. However the moral of this short uneventful story is, “Take a chance.”

Pick up a newspaper, join a dating site, start a business, apply for a job, talk to the girl sitting next to you at the bar, and begin writing a book.

A month or so ago I was starting to get bored with my routine. Work, Jiu-Jitsu, gym, day in and day out. Possibly broken up with a few drinks at the local bar on a Saturday night.

I tend to get restless as soon as my routine begins to feel tiresome. Rather than accept my apathy, I am in the habit of searching for something that will inject excitement into my life. In this case, I decided to join a dating site.

Needless to say I had to meet a few frogs before I kissed my princess. My point is a few months after signing up to the dating platform, my life has taken a dramatic change. A change I knew was possible, but I had my doubts. It’s the doubt that slows us down from making a decision, possibly even stops us in our tracks. That’s because we all have a tendency to believe that good things do not happen to us. The reality is they do. You just have to have faith, trust the process, and take a chance.

It’s obvious if you think about it that if you join a dating site the odds of you meeting someone increases exponentially compared to doing nothing. The chances of you starting a successful business are increased if you take that first step compared to watching another 2 hours of your Instagram feed. The odds of you finding a better job are improved if you apply for another one.

Life is all about taking a chance.

It amazes me how many people do nothing, then whine that they didn’t have the same opportunities as the privileged kids from the nice part of town. If you are that person, you are deserving of a good old fashioned slap across the face to snap you out of your delusional state. It’s time to take that chance.

Happy Monday!
