Mandelbaum Barrett PC Partner Joshua S. Bauchner Named Chair of the Cannabis Chamber of Commerce – Northeast Region

Editor’s note: At the end of last year, the laws regarding cannabis and its allowable THC content were changed under the new budget bill passed by Congress.  This had followed in the heels of the decision in New York’s Court preserving the Civil rights of the cannabis shop owners whose businesses were shut down without due process or proof of wrongdoing. It should also be noted that there are entire classes of pharmaceutical drugs whose activity can be replaced by cannabis, particularly those related to opioid addiction, and as a consequence the push back from the medical community may be at least partly financially based and biased.

New York, NY  Mandelbaum Barrett PC has announced that Joshua S. Bauchner, partner and Chair of the Firm’s Cannabis, Hemp & Psychedelics practice group, has been named Chair of the Cannabis Chamber of Commerce – Northeast Region, encompassing all of New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, DC.

In this leadership role, Bauchner will help guide the Chamber’s efforts to support responsible growth, advocacy, and collaboration across one of the country’s most dynamic and highly regulated cannabis markets. The Cannabis Chamber of Commerce – Northeast Region brings together operators, professionals, and allied businesses to address shared challenges, while promoting education, innovation, and best practices throughout the industry.

Widely recognized as a leading cannabis and hemp attorney, with extensive experience advising businesses, investors, and trade associations navigating complex regulatory frameworks, he has played a central role in shaping legal strategy for clients across the lifecycle of cannabis and hemp enterprises, from licensing and compliance to litigation and policy advocacy.

“Josh’s appointment reflects both his deep subject-matter knowledge and his longstanding commitment to the responsible advancement of the cannabis industry,” said William S. Barrett, the Firm’s CEO.  “He brings a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach that will serve the Chamber and its members well as the Northeast market continues to evolve.”

Chris Boudreau, Executive Director of the Chamber, commented, “We are proud and excited to have Josh involved as a key leader in our organization. His leadership, steep cannabis experience and tireless commitment to the cannabis industry bring tremendous value, and together with our networks, we are well-positioned to build meaningful outcomes for the cannabis industry in the Northeast Region.”

In addition to his cannabis-focused work, Bauchner maintains a robust litigation practice, achieving precedent-setting wins, such as the Super Smoke N Save litigation, that have reinforced Fourth Amendment protections, limited warrantless enforcement actions, and helped level the playing field for small and mid-sized hemp and cannabis businesses. He is a frequent speaker and commentator on cannabis law and policy and has been featured in national legal and business publications for his insight into emerging industry trends.

“I’m honored to take on this role at such a critical time for the industry,” said Bauchner. “The Northeast region presents both tremendous opportunity and unique challenges, and I look forward to working with the Chamber’s leadership and members to help move the industry forward in a responsible and inclusive way.”

The Cannabis Chamber of Commerce Northeast Region works in coordination with international and regional chapters to strengthen collaboration while respecting the distinct regulatory structures in each jurisdiction. Through advocacy, education, and networking, the Chamber aims to foster a sustainable and equitable cannabis marketplace across state lines.
