Chairman Paul Releases NIH Records Showing Fauci Ran Eight-Award Pipeline, Collected $1 Million Prize During Pandemic
Editor’s note: Senator Rand Paul recently held a hearing with a whistle-blower who said that there was a cover up of gain-of-function research at the NIH laboratories across multiple agencies. There’s also evidence that Dr. Fauci deleted official records. A recent hearing where Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease during the Covid pandemic, was being subpoenaed to testify. As one could have assumed, he plead the Fifth Amendment to every question. As an MSNBC anchor reported, this is not only within his right to do but is also highly advisable. With his testimony that could be incriminating, he could be taken to court by any state Attorney General that wishes to take him to court for his admissions. Thus the whole hearing is the same: Dr. Fauci pleads the Fifth. While the federal government cannot try him for his involvement in the pandemic, civil cases and state cases could also possibly be brought for some of the crimes he’s accused of.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, recently released a new batch of internal National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) records detailing how then-NIAID Director Anthony Fauci managed an active pipeline of personal award nominations and cash prizes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
The records show Fauci personally directed his own award nominations as early as October 2018, telling a longtime research collaborator he would “supply all of the material” for the nomination process. By January 2021, Fauci was juggling eight separate awards simultaneously — including the Service to America Award, the Smithsonian’s Great American Medal, the Dan David Prize, the CDC Foundation’s Fries Prize, the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Philip Abelson Prize, the National Academy of Medicine’s Gustav O. Lienhard Award, Vanderbilt University’s Nichols-Chancellor Medal, and the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Ivan Allen Jr. Prize — moving simultaneously through NIH’s ethics and legal review process.
According to the records, NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak personally apologized to Fauci for delays in the approval process after Fauci expressed frustration with the pace. NIH’s own ethics analysis valued the cash prize associated with the 2021 Dan David Prize at $900,000; the funds were wired to Fauci in May 2021. Separately, NIH and Department of Health and Human Services ethics officials could not agree whether Fauci was legally permitted to accept the $40,000 cash prize tied to the National Academy of Medicine’s Gustav O. Lienhard Award, which Fauci received on October 19, 2020, and ultimately appealed the matter to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. Cash prizes from Vanderbilt University and the Georgia Institute of Technology were denied because both institutions were active NIAID grant recipients at the time.
