BP Fossella Hosts Staten Island’s First-Ever Drone Show Above Historic Richmond Town
As part of the Sounds of Summer Concert Series, the Drone Show was a patriotic homage of iconic American imagery, and a display of pride in the place we call home.

Editor’s note: We previously covered some of the events for America’s 250th anniversary celebration that included summer concerts arranged by the borough president.  There was also a Disability Unite event in Central Park this year.
Staten Island, NY – Nearly a thousand Staten Islanders gathered on the lawn in Historic Richmond Town Thursday night for a two-feature concert and Staten Island’s first-ever public drone show, sponsored by Borough President Vito Fossella.
The show was a special feature in the Borough President’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series, which brings great tunes to our beautiful parks and green spaces each week during the summer months for Staten Islanders’ enjoyment. It was headlined by local bands The Dexters and The Bandulos.
When the music faded away, the Borough President greeted the crowd and welcomed them to a patriotic display of more than 400 drones flown in the skies over St. Andrew’s Church, in full view of the concert attendees.
The sky was alight with massive, patriotic imagery – the America 250 logo, Paul Revere’s midnight ride, “We the People”, a cannon firing solid shot, a fighter jet in flight, and many more. Then, the scenes shifted to those closer to home – the Statue of Liberty, the City skyline, and the Staten Island Ferry. The awe-inspiring display closed out with a thank-you to Historic Richmond Town, the Borough President’s signature, and a “fireworks display”.
“We live in the greatest country in the history of the world,” Borough President Fossella said. “And, to celebrate its tremendous birthday, we were pleased to make its history to come to life, with drones lighting up our skies, for the first time ever. We thank Historic Richmond Town for graciously hosting us on their iconic grounds, The Dexters and The Bandulos for their wonderful performance, our men and women of the NYPD for always keeping us safe, and of course, we thank everyone who came out to enjoy the show.”
