BP Fossella to Honor NYPD ESU Detectives & Hatzolah Rabbi for Rapid, Lifesaving Response to Cardiac Arrest of Scott LoBaido
Editor’s note: We covered the National Night Out event on Staten Island, along with the subsequent heart attack and recovery by local artist Scott LoBaido. Scott has also publicly stated that, despite his purchase of an airplane with a banner to go across the city declaring his message, he has decided to call a truce with the Mayor. After all, every mayor since September 11th occurred has been welcome and present at these memorial events in all previous years.
Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella honored NYPD Detective Jason Mueller, Detective Michael Jezycki, and Rabbi Ari Weiss of Hatzolah EMS, for their immediate, lifesaving intervention in a dire medical emergency last week. This took place at a gathering at Borough Hall on Wednesday, August 19th at 3:00 PM.
During this year’s National Night Out event in Midland Beach last Tuesday, Staten Island artist and activist Scott LoBaido suffered a medical episode later identified as a heart attack. Upon witnessing LoBaido experience this emergency, Emergency Service Unit Detectives Mueller and Jezycki sprung to action, and with Rabbi Weiss’ support, they rendered CPR and deployed a defibrillator to bring LoBaido to a state of stability.
Thanks to their actions, and to the high level of quality care at SIUH, Scott LoBaido is on the road to a full recovery.
At this gathering, Borough President Fossella celebrated the heroism of these three individuals in the face of a harrowing, and critical, medical emergency, joined by Scott LoBaido and his friends and loved ones.

Yesterday, BP Vito Fossella, alongside Scott LoBaido, proudly honored NYPD ESU Detectives Jason Mueller and Michael Jezycki and Rabbi Ari Weiss of Hatzolah EMS, whose quick actions helped save Scott’s life.
We thank them for their heroic actions and for being there when Scott needed them most. Staten Island is lucky to have them.

The Office of the Borough President has a responsibility to advocate for the entire Borough of Staten Island and all its residents, and represents the Borough's interests within City government.
The Borough President communicates directly with the Mayor and the City Council to emphasize Staten Island’s budget priorities.
In addition, the Borough President is responsible for reviewing major land use decisions and proposing sites for city facilities within the Borough.
As the chair of the Borough Board, the Borough President leads Staten Island’s City Council delegation and Community Board chairs in the process of reviewing and approving the transfer of public properties to private use. The Borough President’s Office houses the Borough's Topographical Bureau, which maintains the borough’s official maps and assigns street addresses.
The Borough President monitors the delivery of city services on Staten Island, and acts as a liaison between residents and city agencies when problems arise to devise solutions. The Borough President is also responsible for appointing one member to the Panel for Educational Policy and one member to the City Planning Commission, as well as some 150 members to Staten Island’s three community boards.
