Annual Temple Treasures Community Bazaar This Weekend

This coming weekend, the Staten Island Hindu Temple – Shri Ram Mandir is hosting a highly unique temple  sale that offers both a fascinating cultural angle and a strong local neighborhood story for Staten Island residents.

On Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, the temple will open its doors at 1318 Victory Blvd (https://www.google.com/maps/search/1318+Victory+Blvd?entry=gmail&source=g) for the “Temple Treasures Community Bazaar.”

What makes this bazaar particularly unique—separating it from a typical community rummage sale—is the exclusive sale of sacred Murti Sarees.

These garments were personally draped by temple priests to adorn the temple’s deities (moorthies) during devotional services.

Because they have decorated the deities, these garments are considered deeply blessed and are highly sought after as spiritual keepsakes.

In addition to these rare textiles, the two-day bazaar will feature:

Cultural Goods & Collectibles: A vast marketplace of traditional Indian dishes, kitchenware, unique curios, and authentic brass, copper, and steel items.

Festive Shopping: A large inventory of brand-new sarees, traditional bangles, and authentic puja home decor items just ahead of major fall festive seasons.

Community Support: 100% of the bazaar’s proceeds will directly fund the temple’s local community outreach and community programs.

An organization namely, Staten Island Hindu Temple, Inc was registered with the State of New York in 1997. There was a consensus to name the temple after Shree Rama. This led to the purchase of property at 1318 Victory Blvd. Staten Island, in June 2001 with the intent to build the temple by replacing the existing structure. The congregation of Hindus consecrated the new temple structure with Hindu religious invocations (bhoomi puja) by priests in 2004. Construction of the temple began making the dream a reality. Construction was completed in 2006. Inauguration of the temple premises, the house of God (Devalaya) took place with worship according to Hindu rituals of temple entry (devalaya pravesana) thereafter. Various Hindu deities were included inside the temple premises as per the wishes of different denominations of the Hindus with different cultures and traditions thereby reflecting a harmonious and peaceful confluence of all traditions of devotees.
