Editor’s note: Tunnel To Towers Foundation has promised to pay the mortgage for the home of Officer Diller’s family. This is the first line-of-duty death for the NYPD in two years.
In the quiet aftermath of an unimaginable tragedy, our community grapples with the profound loss of Police Officer Jonathan Diller, a devoted servant to the public and a guardian of our city’s peace and security. Officer Diller’s life was taken far too soon, his promise extinguished by an act of senseless violence that has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him and those who knew of him. As we come together to mourn, we also come together to honor his memory, his bravery, and his unwavering commitment to the safety of our citizens.
Officer Diller, a three-year veteran of our police force, dedicated his career to making our streets safer, to protecting those in danger, and to serving as a beacon of hope and justice in our community. He leaves behind a grieving family, including a wife and a young son, who today are reminded of the great cost of our safety. To them, we extend our deepest sympathies, our unwavering support, and our gratitude for Officer Diller’s sacrifice.

Assemblyman Charles D. Fall
Assemblymember Charles Fall represents New York’s 61st Assembly District covering the North Shore of Staten Island, where he has resided his whole life. Fall is the first Muslim and African-American Assemblymember elected from Staten Island. He comes from a working-class family of six. His parents immigrated to Staten Island from Guinea, West Africa, and displayed a commitment to improving the lives of those around them. Fall’s legislative priorities revolve around comprehensive strategies to ensure stable and healthier communities. This includes expanding resources for teachers, parents and students to resolve academic disparities, creating affordable housing options, ensuring individuals and families have sufficient health coverage and access to vital services, improving transportation infrastructure and other long-standing community concerns on the North Shore.
