NYC Mayor Adams Drops Out Of Mayoral Race Due To Lack Of Matching Funds – See Full Announcement
The below video is Mayor Eric Adams’ full announcement to the residents of New York City:
During the primaries back in June, we covered Citizen Action NY’s celebration of the success of their candidates for various offices that will be on the ballot this November. Several changes to the City Charter will be on the ballot as well. Candidate for mayor, Curtis Sliwa, has called for reform in many areas of the city’s budget, especially focusing on eliminating waste and corruption.
According to the below video of Mayor Adams’ announcement that he is dropping out of the race, he shares that it had to do with the lack of public matching funds, making it impossible to run a successful campaign. He expressed his appreciation to the voters for electing an ordinary working person raised by a single mother to become the mayor of the greatest city in the world. Only here can someone who was raised in public housing by a single mom have a chance like that.
For their part, the Campaign Finance Board has released the reasons why Mayor Adams’ application was denied. The following is from their website:
The Board made a brief statement regarding the no-payment to the Eric Adams 2025 campaign:
“The Board determined Mayor Adams’ campaign has failed to demonstrate eligibility for public funds payment at this time on two grounds: one, failure to provide requested information, and two, reason to believe the campaign violated the law,” said Board Chair Frederick Schaffer.
“With respect to the failure to provide requested information, the Board finds the campaign has provided incomplete and misleading information to the CFB and has impeded the CFB staff’s ability to complete its investigation.
“With respect to the second ground, the Board’s conclusion is based upon its review of all of the available evidence, including but not limited to its own independent investigation.
“The Board’s investigation of the Adams campaign is ongoing. As stewards of taxpayer dollars, we are committed to enforcing the rules fairly and equally to all candidates.”
Please visit the CFB website to find information on the two-part threshold candidates must meet to qualify for public funds, as well as additional information on the legal requirements to qualify for public funds.
The following is Curtis Sliwa’s statement about Mayor Adams dropping out of the race:
“Curtis Sliwa is the only candidate who can defeat Mamdani. Our team, our resources, and our funding are unmatched. Most importantly, we have the best solutions to help working people afford to stay in New York City and feel safe.” – Daniel Kurzyna, spokesperson, Sliwa For NYC Campaign.
When interviewed by Democracy Now!, Zohran Mamdani had this to say about Mayor Adams dropping out of the race: “You know, it is something that has been rumored for quite some time, that this would be the month, this would be the week, this would be the day. And today, we’ve finally seen it. Yet it is also an encapsulation of so much of what has characterized Eric Adams’s mayoralty, is decisions at the behest of Donald Trump and his billionaire donors and at the expense of working-class New Yorkers. And what we see in this moment is very much what we saw the day we started this campaign on October 23rd: a necessity to finally stand up to the days of big money and small ideas being what characterizes City Hall, and instead delivering for the very working-class New Yorkers that are being priced out of that same city.”
