Sport & Fitness Spotlight NYC: Spotlight: Jordan Morgan:
NYC’s fitness industry is a very tight knit group of people. The demand for Master trainers is always high and it takes thousands of hours of training, a multitude of certifications, and above all else—results—for a trainer to be at their apex level.
I have been blessed to be in the fitness industry for nearly two decades—which is like a millennium in this line of work. I have been honored to cross paths with the greatest health and wellness professionals from all directions; a certain few of those professionals have particularly inspired and motivated me; Jordan Morgan is most definitely one of the aforementioned greats!
One of the gyms that I had trained for is the renowned Equinox—known for its high caliber of trainer, amenities, and clientele base.
While training for Equinox, I met some of the best experts in the game—from Yoga to Pilates to Martial Arts to strength and conditioning. As a Kung-Fu, Qigong, and Zen instructor and student—I have trained my senses, as well as my instincts, to gage the athletic and energetic balance/imbalance, strength/weakness, resonance/dissonance in others.
I always watch other trainers train when I can: this allows me to simultaneously correct them if I see them do something risky and unsafe, and it allows for me to learn a different element from a different expert—so that I can add it to my ever-growing catalog of skills.
When I first saw Jordan Morgan train—I knew that he had the goods! Jordan is the quintessence of what a “gentle giant” is. Though physically impressive, Jordan always carries himself with total class, grace, dignity, integrity, and humility.
Jordan played in the NFL, is one of the top trainers in NYC, and now is a heavyweight champion in the MMA World. There is no one better that I could think of to Spotlight first than my extremely esteemed and established friend.
Can you imagine how much wisdom such a Champion can offer? Here is some amazing guidance from one champion (Jordan) to another (you readers)!
1) What guidance can you share with young people to help them stay on track with their athletic disciplines?
I would say two things: remember your goal, and align yourself with what gets the result. Remembering the goal is what helps to stoke the flames when things can feel bleak. And to align yourself with what gets the result keeps you fluid. Sometimes we are so steeped in ego, things have to work a specific way. This can be detrimental because it limits you; be fluid and commit to what works best in the given moment, and understand that that changing is perfectly fine.
2) Who is/are your sports hero(s) and what about them has inspired you in your own athletic greatness?
I can’t say that I have a sports hero. I started relatively late (college) in my pursuits, and my goal was always to be the best I personally could be and have fun in the endeavor. As you mature different targets come and go, but ultimately I want to be someone who can inspire others.
3) What is a quote that inspired you?
“No man steps in the same river twice; for it is not the same river, and he is not the same man.” – Heraclitus. I love this one, it speaks to the man I’ve become, and how important perceiving and understanding change is for your own growth and development.
4) What is one of your own inspirational quotes?
One thing I find myself saying a lot would probably be “the work works.” It’s simple, but it’s something I’ve essentially lived by. The work you do towards an outcome, be it good or bad, usually works. Try to do more good than bad in that respect.
5) Played In the NFL…CHECK! one of the Top trainers at Equinox…CHECK! MMA heavyweight champ…CHECK! What is the next great thing that Jordan Morgan wishes to check-off?!
Continuing to build a brand in the health and fitness realm. I find that many things are outdated or miscommunicated and end up becoming more complicated for people. My aim is to share my accrued wisdom in health and total wellness whilst continuing to be someone who can be seen as inspirational to those who need it. I’m hoping to launch two books next year – one that was transformed from my journaling over the years of my experiences and another about protocols for enriching the human experience.
Thank you, Jordan! Enjoy the ride, brother, you deserve all the greatness that awaits you!
Please continue to join us every week for new Spotlights!
