Subway Surfing PSA To Help Discourage Young People From Joining This Deadly Trend

In recent years, the trend of Subway Outside Surfing has become a real problem on the trains in New York City.  Young people ride on top of or on the outside of trains either inside of the underground subway system or, more frequently, outside, on elevated trains.

These trains, while safe to ride on the inside, are very dangerous to ride on the outside.  People have fallen in between train cars and been crushed; they have been hit in th head by beams that the train passes close by to, and they have fallen off of the side as well.  In many cases, their injuries were fatal, while in others they survived with devastating injuries.  This trend, driven by social media sharing, is one that should be left behind as quickly as possible.

Staten Islander News has also reported on this issue several times in the past, with the Mayor and others warning of the dangers.

The PSA below show the dangers of train surfing, and features kids exhorting others to “Ride Inside, Stay Alive.”
