The South Beach Boardwalk  (a.k.a. Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk)

This is a two-and-a-half mile boardwalk running the length of Father Cappodano Boulevard, from Fort Wadsworth Beach to Gateway National Recreation Area’s Miller Field, quite literally the fourth-longest boardwalk on planet Earth. Most of the boardwalk is real wood planks, though some areas are concrete.

Recreation Areas Aplenty!

There are eight baseball fields along the length of the boardwalk, three adjacent to South Beach. From Wikipedia, “… The Detective Russel Timoshenko Soccer Field, named after a police officer killed in 2007, is located further north on the beach at Slater Boulevard.[11] The northern end contains three bocce boards near Drury Avenue[12] and two volleyball courts near Doty Avenue.[13] Three children’s playgrounds exist along the route of the boardwalk. From north to south, they are Playland at Sand Lane; Midland Playground at Graham Avenue; and Midland Beach Playground at Greeley Avenue.[14]..”

A Concession Stand on the South Beach Boardwalk? Yes!!

Yes; this is a rarity. Unique, in fact! While the boardwalk goes on and on for two and a half miles, you will not find another concession stand besides this one. So, if you want to buy hot fries, this is your chance. (There are ice cream trucks at the various beaches that sell ice cream, drinks, and more.)

The South Beach Boardwalk concession stand sells hot potato fries, burger, chips, and drinks, right on the boardwalk. There is actually a range of quick finger foods served there. The seating area is the boardwalk seating area or anywhere you want.

Fancy Dining on the Water with a View of Coney Island

If you’re looking for a sit-down dining experience, you can eat at the South Fin Grill [click here for link], situated right on the boardwalk. Do choose the outdoor seating and call ahead and wait for a day when the steel drum player is performing. Staten Island, NYC: It’s not the islands, but it is an island.™  This place was once called the Vanderbilt.  The focus here is fish and seafood, though there are also many other choices like burgers and pasta.
