Staten Island’s CSI/CUNY Holds New Student Orientations: Getting Students Excited About School
The below video is a compilation of the three most recent CSI New Student Orientation sessions.
The College of Staten Island is sometimes under rated by residents of the borough, which could be due to its affordability. The school’s tuition is low enough that residents who make less than 175% of the Federal Poverty Level are able to attend free of charge, without incurring student loan debt. The Pell Grant and NY TAP award can usually pay for the tuition.
Staten Islanders should know, however, that it is a world class university offering a real world class education. Sean Walsh, the Assistant Director of Orientation, does a fantastic job of getting the new class of students excited about their new school. His excitement is contagious, and his humorous antics are quite popular among the students. They all cried out in unison when he pretended he was about to jump down from the balcony.
CSI has received many awards and accolades for its programs as well as for faculty members.
According to their website:
CSI Continues to Collect National Honors
The College of Staten Island is continuing to gain national attention with a series of accolades collected.
The College of Staten Island was named among the Best Colleges in a host of categories according to U.S. News & World Report. The Best Colleges rankings factor in 17 key measures of academic quality, combined with expert opinions and attributable outcome measures. Among its list of top colleges among national universities, national Liberal Arts colleges, regional universities, and regional colleges, CSI was cited as a top college overall in five categories.
CollegeNET, which provides Web-based on-demand technologies to colleges, universities, and non-profits, has ranked the College of Staten Island 12th, nationally, in its recent Social Mobility Index (SMI).
The CSI Athletics program continues to receive citations. The ECC has named three teams to their Academic Teams of Excellence list and most recently, the College Swimming Coaches Association of American designated both CSI swim teams as Scholar All-America teams for 2022.
In addition to these school-wide awards, there have also been many institution-wide awards and recognitions, including being named a Fulbright HSI leader, Princeton Review’s naming of CSI as a 2025 Top Green College, and Intelligent.com has ranked CSI as among the best in the US for Special Education Master’s Degree programs.
