Staten Islander News asked the following questions about the grand opening of this newest location of MetroHealthPlus:

1- Is this a location meant to facilitate the Essentials Plan for New York residents?  If so, can you provide details about this plan including who and what it covers?

Yes, this location will serve as a community resource center where, among other things, people can learn about different coverage options, including the Essential Plan.

The Essential Plan has no deductibles or monthly premiums and includes free dental and vision care. It covers key health needs like preventive care, emergency care, prescriptions, and mental health services. It’s available to those who don’t qualify for Medicaid or the MetroPlusHealth Child Health Plus plan, with eligibility based on income and household size.

2- Can you describe what you offer to people coming to this location?

This office will be a community resource hub, providing residents with health insurance education, enrollment assistance and access to essential social and wellness services. It will also host weekly on-site support from community partners including the NYPD, FDNY and the Pregnancy Care Center.

3- How does someone qualify for healthcare (of whichever types you assist with)?  Is it based on income, health condition, household size, etc?

MetroPlusHealth believes in putting people over profit and that New Yorkers should have access to high quality, affordable healthcare. This belief is reflected in their plan offerings.

MetroPlusHealth’s $0 Essential Plan eligibility is based on household income (please see the chart below for income eligibility).

Other plans include the Gold Plan (for employees of the city of New York), the GoldCare Plan (for NYC large employer groups and their spouses and children), the Marketplace Plans (for all New Yorkers), the Medicaid Managed Plan, and the Child Health Plus Plan. (for children under age 19 not covered by their parents health insurance plan and not eligible for other coverage such as Medicaid).

4-If someone wants to fill out an application and get help, do they need an appointment?

No, they can walk into any of the MetroPlusHealth community offices (locations seen here) whenever it is convenient for them. Collectively, the MetroPlusHealth staff speaks more than 40 languages and is looking forward to serving more New Yorkers with the opening of this new office.

5- What should they bring with them when they come to see you (income or identity verification, etc.)?

They should bring Proof of Identity and Date of Birth (Driver’s license, Passport, Birth certificate, Social Security number, Marriage records, Immigration documents if applicable), Proof of Residency (Utility bill, Bank statement, Lease or rent receipt, ID card with address, Official mail with your name and date) and Proof of income (Recent pay stubs, Tax returns, Benefit checks, Bank or broker statements, Military check stub)

6- Is this the first Staten island location, or are there others?

This is the second MetroPlusHealth Community Office on Staten Island. The first is in Port Richmond (238A Port Richmond Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302).

MetroPlusHealth, New York City’s high-quality and affordable health plan, is excited to invite you (and your readers) to the grand opening of its second Staten Island community office located in New Dorp Plaza at 2656 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY.

The event, which is open to the public, took place on Tuesday, November 18th at 1:00pm ET (ribbon cutting at 2:15pm) and will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, music and refreshments.
