Rep. AOC’s New York Constituents Can Submit Federal Appropriations Priorities For Budget Requests: Rep. AOC
Editor’s note: Rep. Malliotakis recently announced the requests that her office will be submitting on behalf of several local nonprofits and CUNY/CSI. There does not appear to be an open-to-the-community process similar to Rep. AOC’s with her office for Islanders, but interested parties for next fiscal year can try reaching out to her office directly. One would have to already have been written into the budget in order to obtain this funding.
Every year, Congress is tasked with passing appropriations bills that dictate how federal dollars are spent. Appropriations bills determine total funding levels across federal agencies, specific funding levels for programs within those agencies, and what activities are eligible for funding. The first step in this process is for Members of Congress to make requests to the House Appropriations Committee.
Members of Congress can make requests to the House Appropriations Committee for specific programmatic requests (for specific funding amounts for certain agencies and programs within the bill), bill/report language requests (encouraging or directing some type of agency action), and for certain subcommittees, Community Project Funding requests (for specific projects that meet very limited eligibility criteria).
Last year, many constituents in NY-14 contacted our office to express their priorities for federal spending in the year ahead, and we welcome you all to do so again.
*Please note that the deadline for submitting all community project, programmatic, and language requests to our office is Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:59PM ET.
