The Parks & Recreation Committee reviews and advocates for all matters concerning District parks and recreation areas.
This month’s agenda includes presentations and opportunity for Q&A with the following speakers:
Governors Island leadership will share a presentation on their Spring/Summer program highlights, including Athletic Field usage, public art displays, and access to open green space.
With community input, the City renamed Willoughby Square as Abolitionist Place, to commemorate the 19th century abolitionist movement and local Underground Railroad connections. The Abolitionist Place public space project intends to bring enhanced green space and community amenities to Downtown Brooklyn. EDCNYC will share updates on progress.
NYC Bike Polo Club is partnering with Brooklyn Lacrosse, Brooklyn Pickleball, and other underserved sports clubs to propose a Multi-Use Court capital project at Bridge Park 3.

Brooklyn Community Board No. 2
Brooklyn Community District 2 is one of 59 geographically exclusive, independent City agencies that serve as the most local form of representative government in NYC. Each District is managed by a small City staff, and represented by a Board of 50 community volunteers appointed by their Borough President and City Council Members. Community boards have a variety of responsibilities, including local review of land use and zoning issues, assessing community needs, addressing community concerns, and preparing an annual Statement of District Needs and Budget Requests. Brooklyn Community District 2 includes: Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, DUMBO, Fort Greene, Fulton Ferry, Navy Yard, and Vinegar Hill.
