Islanders spray painted the word CAMERA on a utility pole. Someone else painted it in RED on the camera pole. And, still others fixed yellow ribbons.

MORE Speed Cameras/ Red Light Cameras Called For By DOT Commissioner

Following rising traffic deaths, NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez called for Albany to expand the city’s school zone speed camera and red light camera programs.

The Commissioner detailed the agency’s  proposal to strengthen its proven safety programs to target reckless driving wherever and whenever it may be happening.

The commissioner will host this event at the location of the recent crash where an alleged drunk driver struck and killed an NYU student during the overnight hours.

On May 10th, the Commissioner will return to Albany to advocate for stronger automated enforcement programs.
