Your NAMI Staten Island family wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the new year!
As you may know, after serving as Executive Director for more than 30 years, Linda Wilson retired earlier this year. Linda continues to share her guidance as we transition. It is my privilege to announce that Lyn Ferrante has been appointed as Executive Director of NAMI NYC Staten Island. Lyn is a past president and a facilitator for NAMI Staten Island’s Family to Family class for many years. Lyn has extensive evidence-based training and a passion for NAMI’s mission and the Staten Island community. Her lived experience is a testament to how NAMI can help families adapt and evolve when dealing with mental health challenges.
NAMI NYC Staten Island is a 501c3 non-profit organization established in 1986 when local families came together out of a need for support, education, and advocacy for their loved ones. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. We are part of an alliance of more than 600 local Affiliates and 48 State Organizations that work to raise awareness and provide support and education.
All NAMI Staten Island classes, groups, and presentations are free of charge to the public and facilitated by trained volunteers. To grow and respond to the diverse needs of our community we need volunteers for events, outreach, and expanded support groups to address the growing needs of Staten Islanders. Volunteering gives the opportunity to pay it forward, learn new skills, share with peers in a non-judgemental setting, and advocate for better care.
We are seeking a digital marketing coordinator to help us spread the word using various platforms already in place while helping us grow our digital footprint. The candidate would ideally be looking to build their resume and will work remotely with a small group of clinicians and peers in developing content. We can pay a small stipend. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested.
In closing, know that wherever you are in your journey, you are Not Alone. It’s difficult to deal with mental health issues and getting help is sometimes daunting, but recovery is possible. You learn that with NAMI.
Happy New Year and take care,
Pete Shiffman, RN
