Curtis Sliwa, the 2021 GOP mayoral candidate, announced the creation of the Ronald Reagan Republican Club in Astoria, Queens on Tuesday.
This move marks a major shift in the political landscape of New York City, as the club is determined to strike at the heart of the Democratic Socialists of America’s power in the neighborhoods represented by US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Councilwoman Tiffany Caban.
The Ronald Reagan Republican Club seeks to bring conservative values to the forefront of local politics, challenging the DSA’s grip on power in the area.
The club was created to promote fiscal responsibility, small government, and lower taxes in Queens while maintaining an open dialogue with the community about the issues facing them.
“We’re going into the belly of the beast of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York City. We’re going to take on AOC and Caban,” Sliwa said.
Sliwa added that the club will use grassroots organizing to bring attention to their cause while fostering meaningful conversations among members of all political backgrounds.
The club’s focus of fostering an open dialogue is an important development for Queens residents, as it allows them to discuss their concerns and views on current events in an environment that encourages collaboration and understanding.
With this platform, citizens can come together, get involved in their local communities, and create positive change.
