U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR), Hispanic Federation, Coalition for Food Security Puerto Rico and other advocates call for passage of Puerto Rico Nutrition Assistance Fairness Act

Thursday, April 27th at 9:45 AM: U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR), Hispanic Federation, Coalition for Food Security Puerto Rico and other advocates will hold a press conference to announce the support of more than 200 national non-profits, agriculture advocates, businesses, trade associations and religious groups for a bipartisan bill to address inequalities in food assistance to Puerto Ricans and to enable the transition for Puerto Rico to fully participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Puerto Rico was excluded from SNAP in 1981, which has resulted in the loss of billions of dollars in aid and reduced nutrition benefits. The landmark Puerto Rico Nutrition Assistance Fairness Act would establish a process to transition Puerto Rico from the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) to SNAP.
