Pay It Forward 9/11, Survivors Gather To Kick Off “11 Days Of Kindness And Unity” With Random Acts Of Kindness
PAY IT FORWARD 9/11 AND 9/11 SURVIVORS GATHER TO INSPIRE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS IN NYC TO KICK OFF “11 DAYS OF KINDNESS & UNITY
Pay It Forward 9/11 board member and Staten Islander Jeanette Gutierrez and Pay It Forward 9/11 founder Kevin Tuerff hosted an event on September 1st on West 15th Street to remember lives lost on 9/11. The team of volunteers from JetBlue, Starbucks, and Pay It Forward 9/11 shared personal reflections, divided into teams, and went out into the neighborhood surrounding Xavier Mission on W. 15th Street to hand out free coffee, wristbands, smile cards, and kind words for the first day of #11DaysofKindness
Kevin’s 9/11 story and this charity are featured in the hit Broadway musical “Come From Away”.
#11DaysofKindess kicks off nationally on this day. For 21 years, the annual Pay it Forward 9/11 campaign inspires kind and compassionate individuals, corporate groups, and schools to unify during #11DaysofKindness culminating on the National Day of Remembrance and Service (Sept 11). Anyone can register on the website payitforward911.org and perform three random acts of kindness for strangers from September 1-11, 2023.
“After the 9/11 attacks, people all over the world came together as one to help each other and support those in need,” said founder Kevin Tuerff. “Now is the time to plan an act of kindness with other people in your circles, register your kindness commitment online, and help restore unity through kindness, which creates a ripple effect.”
GREATER IMPACT: This is one of many acts of kindness happening nationwide, including a screening of Come From Away and talkback with firefighters and survivors in Lorton, VA; a group donating hygiene packs to homeless and backpacks with school supplies to students in Austin Tx.; a school with 500 students in middle Tennessee will encourage students to perform good deeds for 11 days, people buying lunch for strangers from locally-run food trucks, and individuals in Kansas City and nationwide supporting first responders with a free meals alongside good deeds for friends, teachers, and coworkers.
