District Attorney McMahon, Uber, Forest Avenue BID, NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission Announce “SISAFERIDE24” Partnership Providing Two $10 Credits on Uber Rides on St. Patrick’s Day

Partnership Between DA McMahon and Uber is Latest in a Series Dating Back to Thanksgiving Eve 2017; Tens of Thousands of Staten Islanders Have Made the Responsible Choice to Not Drink and Drive

Editor’s note: According to PIX11 News, regarding the inclusive parade: “Separate parties, same celebration — there will be two St. Patrick’s Day parades in Staten Island this year, a “traditional” parade and a “more inclusive one.”

A ban by organizers of the annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade has kept LGBTQ+ marchers from participating. Now, Mayor Eric Adams has announced a different parade.”

A spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office said, ““From day one, Mayor Adams has been clear that celebrations in our city should be welcoming and inclusive.  That is why we are thrilled to be collaborating with the Staten Island Business Outreach Center for their first-ever St Patrick’s Day parade this year where everyone interested – regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or beliefs – will be welcome to march together.”

On Thursday, District Attorney Michael E. McMahon and Uber announced that the latest in their series of “SISAFERIDE” partnerships will be held this Sunday, March 17th to coincide with the Forest Avenue BID’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the first inclusive St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Staten Island’s history. As with past “SISAFERIDE” efforts, this partnership provides Staten Islanders an incentive to make the smart, safe decision to leave the car at home, and travel to and from their St. Patrick’s Day festivities safely.

“St. Patrick’s Day is one that countless thousands of our Irish neighbors and those who are only Irish for the day mark on their calendars and look forward to all year long. This year, the celebration of Ireland’s patron saint, culture, and traditions is even more special as it coincides with Staten Island’s first ever inclusive St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We hope and expect that thousands will flock to Forest Avenue and across the Island to enjoy a pint at our numerous terrific bars and restaurants, or to one of countless house parties celebrating “Staten Ireland” said District Attorney McMahon.

“While we wait for the long overdue day where all who wish to march in our traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade can do so openly, I am thrilled and grateful that the parade is being held, and that our friends at Uber have once again stepped up to make sure everyone can visit the bars, restaurants, and small businesses of West Brighton and beyond safely. To be sure, the job of our great Police Department and my fantastic team is to keep everyone safe so our message is clear: Don’t drink and drive! I encourage everyone celebrating on Sunday to patronize these businesses and to travel to and from your destination safely.”

To claim the credits, open your Uber app, click “Account,” then “Wallet,” and then “Add Voucher Code” to enter the code “SISAFERIDE24.” Two $10 credits will be applied to your account, and automatically used on any ride beginning or ending on Staten Island between the hours of 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 17th. If the ride costs over $10, your normal payment method will only be charged the remaining balance. The offer has limited availability and will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

“The Forest Ave BID would like to thank DA Michael McMahon for his support of this parade and his commitment to ensuring the safety of our community members” said Nina Flores, Executive Director of the Forest Avenue Business Improvement District. “We encourage those who are coming to the parade to take advantage of this promotion to have a safe and fun day!”

“Flat caps off to DA McMahon, Uber, and the Staten Island BID for partnering to increase safety during one of the City’s truly marvelous celebrations,” said Taxi & Limousine Commissioner David Do. “Driving while intoxicated is one of the major causes of crashes and fatalities, and here in New York we’re blessed with abundant for-hire vehicles and drivers who can do the driving for us while we enjoy ourselves. There is never a good excuse for drinking and driving, but a discount like this is certainly a good excuse for hiring a ride.”
