Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella delivered a proclamation declaring April 15th as “The American Heart Association Day” on Staten Island at a press conference at Borough Hall on Monday, April 15th at 10:30 AM.

The American Heart Association, which is celebrating its centennial this year, has a history of supporting cardiovascular health on Staten Island. The NYC AHA team, in conjunction with the Borough President’s Office and community partners, have worked for over a decade to reduce cardiovascular mortality and expand CPR trainings in schools and community settings.

Notably, for the past three years, AHA has sponsored and funded a Staten Island CLIP barbershop program focused on hypertension prevention for Black men. [Readers may remember our coverage of the barber shop expansion here]

To honor the century of work improving cardiovascular health on Staten Island and across the country, as well as AHA’s work on Staten Island, Borough President Fossella awarded AHA a proclamation.

Following the press conference, AHA  offeres a hands-only CPR training session for attendees and visitors.
