Thank you, President Biden

Editor’s note: Staten Islander News previously covered President Biden’s decision not to seek reelection, which may have been the result of major donors withdrawing their support, greatly reducing his chances for a successful campaign. We also published an editorial detailing the ageism in media that was directed against the president in recent weeks.

Thank you, President Biden, for dedicating your life’s work to public service. Not since the administration of Franklin Roosevelt has any US president shown such strong support for working American families. President Biden’s decision was patriotic, selfless, and will be remembered fondly by history.

Make no mistake, President Biden has been an exceptionally strong president for labor and working people. Under President Biden’s administration, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan, a testament to his commitment to the well-being of working people. This plan, which provided relief for multi-employer pension plans, including the AFM’s US pension plan, has significantly improved the lives of countless working Americans.

The National Labor Relations Board has been restructured to support worker rights in employment and collective bargaining. The decrease in federal funding for the arts has been halted, while the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) committed to a prevailing wage requirement for musicians and other performers hired by NEA grant recipients.

We are honored and privileged to have Biden as our president, leading us with his unwavering commitment to the well-being of working people.
