The City of Linden Oversees $120 Million OneWest Mixed-Use Development

Editor’s note: Linden recently made headlines when Mayor Armstead appointed the youngest board member in New Jersey history to the Zoning Board.

Linden, NJ – On Wednesday, August 21st, Mayor Armstead and Elected Officials commenced the groundbreaking of the OneWest Apartments redevelopment located at downtown Linden, NJ, a premier 7-story, 569,000 square foot mixed-use building that exemplifies luxury and sophistication.

With an investment of over $120 million, this project promises to deliver an unparalleled living experience, setting a new standard for upscale urban living in the heart of downtown Linden. This state of the art mixed-use development will feature 334 upscale apartments, including 1-bedroom, 1-bedroom with a den, and 2-bedroom units, each crafted with high-end finishes. Residents will enjoy 13,000 square feet of vibrant ground floor retail space and an expansive 30,000 square foot amenities deck on the third floor. OneWest Apartments is strategically located within a few steps of the Linden Train Station, at the junction of New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor Line.

The property contains approximately 1.86 acres and has operated for years as the Elwood Plaza retail center. Once known as the “Clarke Property”, on the corner of North Wood Avenue and West Elizabeth Avenue, it housed QuickChek, Linden Retail Specialty Pharmacy, Carvel, Big Blues Sub, and other businesses. The property was owned by the Clarke family for nearly 100 years, which was developed by Mr. Clarke’s grandfather, Fred Wood. Wood Avenue was named after Fred Wood.

“Housing is a critical goal for Linden. I am excited to have my colleagues’ support from City Council with our shared vision for this major redevelopment project. This luxurious deck will be a sanctuary for leisure and comfort, complete with a built-in-swimming pool, picturesque landscaping and hardscape, an outdoor pavilion, BBQ and fire pit areas, recreational spaces, and dedicated dog walking area, community rooms, indoor fitness rooms for both cardio and strength and conditioning training, along with a fully-equipped business center”, stated Mayor Derek Armstead.

“We greatly appreciate Mayor Armstead and the Council for providing us the opportunity to develop a premier transit oriented landmark at OneWest Apartments. This project is envisioned as the cornerstone of a true transit oriented development, promoting continued economic growth, and serving as the crown jewel of downtown Linden. Our goal is to help transform Linden into a destination city with a vibrant downtown, and to enhance the quality of life for residents, visitors, commuters, and workers. We will continue to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure Linden’s success”, said Ron Morriello

According to Real Estate NJ, the developer has secured a 30-year payment in lieu of taxes agreement with the city.

Linden is a good place. There is a train to NYC and Jersey City.

Staten Island is a transportation desert.

I see these going up all over New Jersey. Some I’ve been in. Many are nice.

They’re popping up all over the world. There’s a YouTube video but I don’t know the title.

Linden is nice. Elizabeth is right there, though it doesn’t look nearly as vibrant as it did in photos and videos from the past. More like Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. Same quality of stores. Okay shopping, but nothing that great. Elizabeth is still a great city, with a lot to offer. There’s some cool Kosher eateries. I’m getting hungry and want to nosh. ha ha ha
