Attention Friends Of Educators, School Administrators: Nominations Now Being Accepted For Patrick F. Daly Award

About the 2023 Award, according to BP Fossella’s website: “The award was posthumously presented to David LaMorte, who was the director of the Tottenville High School Marching Band for more than two decades, and to Lawrence Hansen, the principal of St. Joseph Hill Academy Elementary School.”
Staten Island, NY – The office of Borough President Vito Fossella is starting to accept nominations of educators and school administrators for the 2024 Patrick F. Daly Award.
The Patrick F. Daly Award, established in 1992, honors former P.S. 15 Principal Patrick F. Daly, who dedicated his career and life to the betterment of his students, and tragically died in 1992 while searching for a missing student in the Red Hook Houses.
The Patrick F. Daly Award celebrates Staten Island educators and educational administrators who have dedicated their lives to providing the best for their students.
“There is something so important and special about a good educator in a kid’s life, and on Staten Island, we are very fortunate to have some great teachers and administrators who give their all to see our young people learn and succeed. It is our pleasure to honor some of these good educators every year, and we invite Staten Islanders to nominate someone they know has made tremendous impacts on the lives of their children and many others,” said Borough President Fossella.

Nominations will be accepted up until Monday, December 2nd.

The Office of the Borough President has a responsibility to advocate for the entire Borough of Staten Island and all its residents, and represents the Borough's interests within City government. The Borough President communicates directly with the Mayor and the City Council to emphasize Staten Island’s budget priorities. In addition, the Borough President is responsible for reviewing major land use decisions and proposing sites for city facilities within the Borough. As the chair of the Borough Board, the Borough President leads Staten Island’s City Council delegation and Community Board chairs in the process of reviewing and approving the transfer of public properties to private use. The Borough President’s Office houses the Borough's Topographical Bureau, which maintains the borough’s official maps and assigns street addresses. The Borough President monitors the delivery of city services on Staten Island, and acts as a liaison between residents and city agencies when problems arise to devise solutions. The Borough President is also responsible for appointing one member to the Panel for Educational Policy and one member to the City Planning Commission, as well as some 150 members to Staten Island’s three community boards.
