Limitless Monday – Rely on yourself

The US election is upon us, and much of the message has been to vote for so and so because they intend to fight for you.

If you are voting for a candidate for that reason, then you have some serious issues my friend. Issues we are going to discuss in today’s article.

Relying on anyone unless you are a child is not advisable. As an adult, it is unforgivable. When a politician stands up and says: you should vote for me because, “I have your back,” it should immediately set off alarm bells.

Firstly, let’s be realistic. Politicians are probably the most selfish profession vying for the top spot with prostitutes and just ahead of lawyers.

Their interest in fighting for you only extends as far as it fits into their current agenda. If you think otherwise, you have either been brainwashed or haven’t given it much thought beyond the rhetoric.

In today’s article my objective is to impose on you the importance of self sufficiency.

Self sufficiency doesn’t just extend to being able to pay your bills, look after your family, keep a roof over your head, and drive to work in a decent car. There is far more to it.

To be self-sufficient, you must be in control of your time and money. That means being financially independent. Not relying on the government for tax breaks and handouts. These are only ever temporary. Being able to manage your time rather than having someone manage it for you is your ultimate goal.

Hoping that you will have your work week reduced to four days for the same pay or that your employer is going to allow you to work from home is like a prisoner being promised a flat screen TV in his cell. He waits with hope and expectation, and nothing ever arrives. Better to make your own plans. If there are any windfalls that land in your lap along the way that is a bonus. However, you must not build your goals on outside factors, only on factors you control.

The desperado who is addicted to the Lotto, and spends hundreds of dollars a week dreaming of the big win is not only wasting his money, but is also constantly disappointed. If you control your destiny and have your own back, then you wake every morning with a spring in your step, hungry for action and success. The Lotto player or loyal employee waiting for his or her handout wakes every morning with few hopes and dreams and a zest for life which evaporated the day they left college.

Today, work out how you become more self-sufficient with your time and money.

Finally, the next time you hear a politician say, “I have your back,” seriously consider avoiding that candidate.

Happy voting and Happy Monday!
