Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company Celebrates 50 Years With Giving Tuesday Goal Of $50K

Editor’s note: Staten Islander covered the opening of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard earlier this year, along with Keely & Du and Othello last year.

We are extremely excited to KICK-OFF our $50K for 50 Years fundraising campaign with #GivingTuesday this year! This campaign will be a year-long fundraiser filled with special events throughout the season to ensure we reach our goal.

Our 50th season starts January 2025 with an original full length play “Lights Over Kansas” by local playwright and Women’s Playwright Collective member Courtney Emerson.

We’re bringing back Theatre Trivia in February 2025, and then diving into the surrealistic world of Strindberg with “A Dream Play” in March.

April will celebrate National Poetry Month with “Translating Sonnets” featuring local Staten Island poets reciting Shakespeare’s poetry into their own words – where we will be raffling off our biggest 50/50 raffle yet! This Mega Raffle will have a winner take home $10k! There will only be 200 tickets sold at $100 for a better chance of winning. You can start getting your raffle tickets now!

Bringing a classic to life, “Dr. Faustus” by Christopher Marlowe will be presented in May, and a hint of modern interpretation of “The Importance of Being Earnest” in June. That month will also feature our Celebrating 50 Years Cocktail Party.

August will kick off the Women’s Playwright Collective Festivals: the New Worlds, featuring two 30 minute original plays; and then the return of the 8th Annual Not Forgotten Play Festival of 10 minute plays.

“The Comedy of Errors”, our annual FREE SHOW, is slated for September in Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Gardens, and then “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” highlights October’s spooky season and the Ichabod Crane and Staten Island connection.

Finally, our grand 50th season finale will accumulate with laughs and jest at The Roast of Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre in November 2025.

We hope you can join us and contribute in some way to our special year! Below are ways to contribute. We couldn’t have lasted 50 years without YOU, your support, and your belief in this non-profit theatre company.
