NEW YORK CARES SPREADS WARMTH DURING 36th ANNUAL COAT DRIVE WITH COAT DISTRIBUTION FOR STATEN ISLANDERS IN NEED
The New York Cares coat distribution will support children, families and individuals in Staten Island.
New York Cares, in partnership with A Chance In Life – The Village, a drop-in youth center, will host a coat distribution for the 36th Annual Coat Drive, where volunteers will distribute 200 warm winter coats to Staten Islanders in-need on Tuesday, December 17, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at A Chance In Life – The Village located at 1100 Castleton Avenue in Staten Island.
The coat distribution will be organized using the Plentiful App, where groups of 15 individuals will enter the distribution in 15-minute intervals. New York Cares volunteers will assist with organizing and distributing the coats to children, families, and individuals.
Every Tuesday, A Chance In Life supports the most vulnerable individuals and families by providing essential resources through The Village Free Market program. This innovative program offers a dignified “shopping experience,” allowing participants to select essential items tailored to their specific needs. Through a partnership with New York Cares, the program also extends to coat distribution, enabling individuals to choose coats that match their size, fit, and personal preferences.
Now through February 28, 2025, New York Cares aims to provide 85,000 warm coats to New Yorkers in need and raise $1,000,000 to distribute brand new winter coats and fund essential programs that help break the cycle of poverty through the Coats+ fundraising campaign. New Yorkers can donate gently used, freshly laundered coats at several public collection sites in each of the five boroughs, set up a coat collection, or donate to the Coats+ fundraiser.
The inaugural Coat Drive was held in 1989 as the city’s first centralized initiative to collect and distribute warm winter coats across the five boroughs. It has since helped more than 2.5 million New Yorkers find warmth. Last year alone, New York Cares collected and distributed over 73,000 coats and served more than 300 schools and non-profit organizations.
