MAS NYC: Jane’s Walk Submissions Now Open – Anyone Can Lead A Walk
Submissions Are Now Open for Jane’s Walk NYC!
Editor’s note: As reported in previous years, Jane’s Walk is a tradition started by Jane to showcase the best of NYC with walks everyone can enjoy. Short walks and longer walks can all be submitted, and anyone with a passion for the city who likes talking about special places can lead a walk.
From the Jane’s Walk website about its origins: “Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was a writer, urbanist, and activist who championed a community-based approach to city-building. She had no formal training as a planner, and yet her 1961 book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, introduced ground-breaking ideas about how cities function, evolve, and fail that have become conceptual pillars for today’s architects, planners, policymakers, activists, and other city builders…
“Jane’s Walk was founded in Toronto in 2006 by a group of Jane Jacobs’ friends and colleagues as a way to honor her life and activate her ideas. That first year, there were a handful of walks in Toronto. Over the next decade, the movement saw rapid global uptake by urban activists around the world.”

The Jane’s Walk team is here to help you dream up your walk idea. While you can submit a walk about any New York City-based topic, here are some ideas:
Grab a bite or a drink at your favorite café or bar to kick-off your walk, or to close things off and continue the conversation!
Create a playlist of songs about New York City, or city life, and lead a walk inspired by the selection
Get outside and lead a walk through your local park or green space
There will be much more to come! The full roster of walks will be announced in early-April. We can’t wait to explore the city with you!
With lots of love for New York City,
