Staten Islanders: Head To Brooklyn Tomorrow For Teen Violence Awareness Walk Featuring Speakers, March Across Brooklyn Bridge

Editor’s note: Staten Islander News covered this event last year.  This year’s event will be similar, and will feature multiple speakers, and the attendees will march across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan with police escort.  A video and photo slideshow will be published next weekend for our readers.

Join The Healing Center’s 13th annual NYC Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walk, which will open for registration at 10 am on Saturday, April 26th.This city-wide event brings together hundreds of students, community residents, schools, nonprofit organizations, and elected officials to take a stand against teen dating and sexual violence, which affect 19% of teens nationwide[1].

The event kicks off with an opening rally featuring performances and speeches by survivors, youth, advocates, elected officials, and parents. We then march across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, chant against the violence among youth, and conclude after crossing with a closing rally in front of New York City Hall. This is a moving annual event featuring MCs from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office that mobilizes our city, centers youth voices, and highlights the pressing issue of sexual and dating violence among teens.

Below is the flyer in English and Spanish:
