Limitless Monday – Don’t Worry About What’s Behind You, Be Concerned With What’s In Front of You!
Limitless Monday – Don’t worry about what’s behind you, be concerned with what’s in front of you!
The other day I was cycling home from work when I found myself behind a young boy and his father riding their bicycles at less than a leisurely pace. The little boy became nervous when he turned and noticed me speeding up behind him. His bicycle began to wobble, and as he tried to maintain his balance his father told him, “Don’t worry about what’s behind you, focus on what’s in front of you!”
I wanted to pat the little boy on the head and thank him for the inspiration for today’s article, but you can’t go around patting random children on the head these days!
It’s so tempting to look back on the good times and think those were the happiest moments of our life. It’s easy to recall pleasant memories and say, “It will never get as good as that again.”.
Most of us drift into thought about the missed opportunities and regrets of our past.
Some of us even torture ourselves and dream of the days when life was simple, when you had a girlfriend in each city, money to burn, and a body which had few limits.
But what is the point of all this reminiscing? Does it achieve anything?
It would take the discipline of a robotic mind to prevent reliving your past.
I often drift into thoughts of possible regrets. As soon as I do this my energy levels sink, and I become morose. I quickly snap myself out of this debilitating thinking by telling myself that I am who I am because of my past. And I quite like myself.
On occasion, it’s not a bad thing to reflect on our past. We can learn lessons which we can apply to our present with the aim of making our future better than our past.
It is a mistake, however, to spend more than a fleeting moment in the past. Moreover, if you are unable to deal with the past in a practical, sensible manner without torturing yourself, you must ration yourself from spending time there. You can’t be trusted!
The past is the past. We must focus on the future now and use the past as our guide for an even better future. You are wiser now. Possibly wealthier, if not wealthier then with more potential. You can’t change the past. You can change the future. Focus on what you have control over, and stop wasting your time on regrets and wishful thinking. It’s time to move on from your past regrets and make sure you don’t create new ones.
Today work out what you are going to do which is going to improve your future, and then get on with it!
Happy Monday!
