Food for the Soul: BP Fossella and Shaw-nae Dixon to Announce Upcoming Soul Food Festival

Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella will host local soul food chef and restaurateur Shaw-nae Dixon to announce that a Soul Food festival is coming to Staten Island later this summer.
Ms. Dixon is the chef and owner of Shaw-Nae’s House, a critically lauded Stapleton eatery located on Van Duzer Street with numerous mouthwatering classic soul food offerings.
In a vibrant celebration of local culture and cuisine, BP Fossella and Ms. Dixon will publicly announce the details of a Soul Food festival, presented by Shaw-nae’s House, to be located on the North Shore on August 31st.

Borough President Vito Fossella and beloved restaurateur Shaw-nae Dixon joined together to announce the NYC Soul Food Festival, a vibrant celebration of mouthwatering cuisine, culture, and community.
The NYC Soul Food Festival will take place on Sunday, Aug. 31, from noon to 6 p.m. at Snug Harbor Botanical Garden and Cultural Center. In addition to flavorful food, there will be live performances, stirring music, a fashion show, and vendors.
“We like to embrace the belief that anything is possible with love, kindness, and peace — we can make anything work,” said Borough President Fossella during a press conference in Borough Hall yesterday. “Shaw-nae has made it work. Not only is she committed to a business, but making her customers, employees, and others feel great when they enter her restaurant.”
Shaw-nae Dixon is the owner of Shaw-Nae’s House, a critically acclaimed restaurant on Van Duzer Street in Stapleton.
“Thank you for being a part of something that I believe is extremely monumental, not just for my business, but for New York City,” she said. “Staten Island is New York City. The Soul Food Festival is one of those really extreme, loud, very bold expressions of desire to be a part of New York City’s culture and bring in something new, flavorful, and fun.”
