Council for Unity, MSK & MBK Host “Give Grub, Get Grub” Family Night at Tottenville High School
Hundreds of students and families expected to attend annual community dinner and food drive benefitting Project Hospitality
Editor’s note: According to the event organizer, 67 neighborhood families were able to have a Thanksgiving dinner complete with a turkey, and they donated all of the cans to Project Hospitality and the turkeys to the South Shore Community Pantry, who distributed them to families that needed them. Our photographer, Sean Fitzpatrick, covered this event in person. Please see below for a video featuring his video clips and photos:
Staten Island, NY — Council for Unity (CFU), Sister’s Keeper (MSK), and My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) will come together once again to host their annual “Give Grub, Get Grub” Family Night on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 5:00 PM in Large Cafeteria B at Tottenville High School, located at 100 Luten Avenue, Staten Island.
This much-anticipated event brings together students, families, and community members for an evening of food, service, and unity. Attendees are invited to bring three (3) non-perishable food items—such as canned goods, rice, or pasta—to gain entry.
All donations collected will go directly to Project Hospitality, supporting families across Staten Island facing food insecurity during the holiday season.
“Give Grub, Get Grub” is more than a community dinner—it’s a powerful example of youth leadership in action. Students from Tottenville High School, alongside staff and volunteers from MSK, MBK, and Council for Unity, will organize, serve, and host the event.
“This event is about bringing people together and showing what unity looks like in practice,” said a Council for Unity Advisor Hagar Abuella. “Our students are not only helping feed their neighbors—they’re learning what it means to lead with compassion and purpose.”
Last Year’s Success Sets the Stage for a Bigger 2025
In 2024, more than 800 families, students, and community members attended “Give Grub, Get Grub,” making it one of the most successful family engagement events in the Tottenville community. Over 150 student volunteers helped coordinate the event—serving meals, welcoming guests, moving donations, and cleaning up afterward.
The event collected hundreds of pounds of food, all donated to Project Hospitality, a Staten Island nonprofit that provides food, shelter, and supportive services to those in need. Organizers expect to exceed last year’s turnout and donation totals in 2025, as momentum and community excitement continue to grow.
