Borough President Fossella, District Attorney McMahon, NYPD Borough Commander Eger, and Staten Island Interfaith Leaders to Stand Against Violent Acts of Hate
Editor’s note: BP Fossella and other local Staten Island politicians stood against hate also after the October 7th attacks in Israel in 2023. We also covered Staten Island’s first ever Islamic Peace Academy, attended by local politicians including Asm. Pirozzolo and Sen. Scarcella-Spanton.
Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella, District Attorney Michael McMahon, NYPD Borough Commander Melissa Eger and several Staten Island interfaith leaders held a press conference at Borough Hall on Friday, May 22nd at 11:00 AM to take a stand against violent hate crimes committed against people practicing their faith.
The press conference comes in the aftermath of the shooting last week at the Islamic Center of San Diego, which tragically took the lives of three innocent people. San Diego authorities have identified the shooting as a hate crime.
During recent periods of heightened tension, the Borough President and District Attorney have rallied religious leaders, across various creeds, to stand against violence and promote the freedom to express and practice one’s faith.
Now, the Borough President and District Attorney were joined by local NYPD leadership and religious leaders to renew their call for an end to all violent acts of hate against people solely practicing their faith in peace.
