1986 World Series Champion and Baseball Legend Wally Backman to Become New Field Manager of the Staten Island FerryHawks 

STATEN ISLAND FERRYHAWKS CEO AND PRESIDENT JOHN CATSIMATIDIS, GENERAL MANAGER GARY PERONE AND TEAM LEADERSHIP TO MAKE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE FUTURE OF ONE OF NEW YORK CITY’S PREMIER PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL TEAMS

Editor’s note: Staten Islander has previously covered several of the FerryHawks’ games, including one earlier this year as the season began, along with the bicycle donation event for the local community members who had signed up for the program.  We also covered the Wu Tang Clan special game and performance a couple of seasons ago.  

NEW YORK, N.Y. — John Catsimatidis, CEO and President of the Staten Island FerryHawks, alongside General Manager Gary Perone and team leadership, will host a special breakfast press conference to announce a major new chapter for the Staten Island FerryHawks.

The event will officially introduce Wally Backman as the team’s new field manager. Backman was a key member of the legendary 1986 World Series Championship New York Mets team, a former MLB All-Star, and has decades of experience as a player and professional baseball manager.

The announcement brought together business leaders, sports executives, and members of the media to discuss the FerryHawks’ vision for the future of professional baseball in New York City and the continued growth of the Staten Island franchise.
