The NYPD’s Community Affairs Division celebrated its 30th year of community affairs, bringing together local community members and their police precincts. This event started three decades ago with an information table and a vision to connect local residents with their own borough first responders. Now it has grown in size and served over 1,500 children at this year’s event. Josephine Marino, the 120th Precinct Community Council president, said: “This event started with just NYPD getting out their information table and it moved to another 10 … today there’s 125 people here today giving out information,”
There were food vendors, the New York Public Library’s Book Mobile was stationed there to encourage kids to pick up a book during their summer vacation, along with bounce houses, various rides for kids, and fun activities for kids and adults. There were lots of different food trucks to choose from on this summer day. Snug Harbor’s ArtLab provided hands-on arts and crafts activities for participants. Local politicians, including Asm. Pirozzolo, Councilman Carr, and others also attended this fun family event.

National Night Out is one of my favorite community traditions because it brings neighbors, families, and law enforcement together in a positive way. I hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, August 4th at the Midland Beach Boardwalk for an evening of family fun, community resources, and the chance to meet the dedicated NYPD officers who work every day to keep Staten Island safe.
This is a great opportunity to come out, support our police, and strengthen the bond between our community and those who serve and protect us. I hope to see you there!
