Limitless Monday – Position yourself at the top of the pile

A few years ago my lawyer revealed to me why he consistently prioritized my work.

“Those that shout the loudest,” he told me, “get the job done.”

Now the reason why I mention this random exchange is because it represents a great life lesson which I would like to share with you on this happy Monday.

Many of us accept our place in the world.

That place is what we believe others expect from us. Our parents, partner, friends, children, co-workers, even strangers. They all have their own expectations of us. And those expectations can impact how we think and act.

This Monday’s article is about getting what we want. Breaking the taboos. Not accepting what others tell us or expect of us.

Going back to my lawyer. I didn’t care that he had other clients that required attention. It didn’t bother me how important their work was compared to my own. My priorities were my own goals.

As far as I was concerned, anyone I came in contact with, including my hapless lawyer, was going to dance to my tune, especially if I was paying his bill!

I want you to expect to be at the top of the proverbial pile. Don’t accept being buried at the bottom of a stack of papers.

I want you to be noticed. I want you to make sure your opinion counts and your actions matter. As I have said in previous articles, you are the hero of your story.

Heroes are not pushed to the back of the line, ignored, interrupted, and discarded.

They fight to be heard, whether that is verbally or through actions. That doesn’t mean you need to be a loud mouth.

Quite the opposite.

You must be confident in yourself and in your outcome. You should have faith that you will achieve your goals.

Hope is not good enough. Conviction is what is needed.

Perhaps screaming at your lawyer to, “Get it done!” is not the most appropriate way forward. But I don’t apologize for it.

It achieved my goal and ultimately got the job done.

The bottom line is you decide what is good for you, no one else. Your co-worker, so-called friend, or the crowd isn’t living your life; you are.

Today; do something radical that will raise some eyebrows and get you noticed as someone who is independent and driven.

If you feel like it, shout at a lawyer or government official who has been sleeping on the job, your job, and feel liberated.

Happy Monday!
