Pirozzolo Stands Firm on Veterans’ Support After Democrats Reject Bill to Help Them

Editor’s note: Many of our local politicians always stand up to support our veterans.  This includes Senator Lanza with his annual ceremony. State Senator Scarcella-Spanton helped to pass a bill supporting job placement and resume writing assistance for seniors still in the workforce.

Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R,C-Staten Island), is calling out Assembly Democrats who voted against moving forward with a bipartisan bill that would have financially assisted veterans. The bipartisan bill, which Pirozzolo authored and sponsored, aimed to give veterans a $6,000 New York State tax deduction. Pirozzolo fought for the need to honor veterans’ contributions and provide assistance for those who have served our country with great sacrifice.

He emphasized the critical need to address the obvious discrepancy between the benefits given to illegal immigrants and the inadequate assistance given to veterans. He also discussed the bill’s potential to alleviate financial burdens for veterans and enhance their quality of life, enabling them to reinvest in the New York state economy and improve their overall well-being. “This setback is a disheartening message to our veterans that their sacrifices have been overlooked and undervalued. Veterans have selflessly served our country, earning the benefits they receive, while illegal migrants, who haven’t contributed at all, still receive taxpayer-funded benefits from our government. This bipartisan bill is an opportunity to address this disparity, honoring our heroes and bringing New York into line with other states like New Jersey, where veterans enjoy higher levels of support. It is disrespectful and unjustified for us to essentially turn our backs on the people who have given their lives for us by refusing to pass this bipartisan bill. As wars continue to rage across the globe, I believe that we must do all we can to make New York State a “Home For Heros” and to assist all of those who have given us the opportunity to stand here today,” said Pirozzolo.

Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo represents the 63rd Assembly District, which encompasses parts of the North Shore, including Emerson Hill, Sunnyside, Bloomfield, Travis and Chelsea.
