Editor’s note: We’ve previously covered this same award in 2024 as well as in 2023. Teachers and administrators are eligible, and they need to have made a positive difference in students lives. The FLAG Award for Teaching Excellence is only open to teachers.
Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella is calling on Staten Islanders to nominate dedicated teachers and school administrators who have gone above and beyond to advance the education of their students for the 2025 & 2026 Patrick F. Daly Awards.
The Patrick F. Daly Award, established in 1992, honors former P.S. 15 Principal Patrick F. Daly, who dedicated his career and life to the betterment of his students and tragically died in 1992 while searching for a missing student in the Red Hook Houses. The Patrick F. Daly Award celebrates Staten Island educators and educational administrators who have dedicated their lives to providing the best for their students
“The legacy of Patrick Daly is one of sacrifice, and a lifelong commitment to giving students not just a quality education, but the foundation of good character. His life was defined by this incredible commitment to the people he educated,” Borough President Fossella said. “We are pleased to honor his legacy and sacrifice every year, by celebrating the great teachers and administrators who go above and beyond every day, as he did.”
Those who would like to nominate a teacher or school administrator for consideration of the 2025 & 2026 Patrick F. Daly Awards are welcome to make a submission, including a detailed letter describing their nominee’s character and why they should receive the award, on the Borough President’s website at: https://www.statenislandusa.com/patrickdalynomination.html. Applications may also be emailed to the Borough President’s Special Events Department: Renee Sarno at [email protected], and Lauren Lefkowitz at [email protected].
The deadline for submissions is Saturday, September 12, 2026.
